In a Birmingham park, council dog wardens stumbled upon a four-year-old rottweiler that was infested with flesh-eating maggots. The poor pup had a skin infection in the shape of a ghost, caused by the maggots that had feasted on its flesh. Due to the severity of the wound, the dog was supposed to be put down. However, an animal sanctuary intervened and saved the rottweiler. Boo, as they named the brave dog, was taken in by Wythall Animal Sanctuary, where vets nursed him back to health. Despite the horrific ordeal, Boo survived and was given a second chance at life.
According to Alison Cookson, the manager of the venue, this incident is the most severe case of animal abuse she has witnessed in her profession. Boo was initially named after Halloween, but upon closer inspection, he has a ghostly mark left by the maggots. It’s peculiar as you can see the silhouette of a ghost with one side arm and large black eyes. The hair around the mark should regrow, but it’s amusing that the maggots needed to be removed.
When they found Boo, he was emaciated and his body was bound by an old, rusty chain. The animal care worker who discovered him claimed that it was the most severe case of neglect she had witnessed in her 34 years of service. As Boo’s physical health had deteriorated significantly, administering pain relief would have been too much for his weakened organs to handle. Currently, he is undergoing treatment with antibiotics and a skin scrape has been done to determine the appropriate course of action. Fortunately, Boo’s kind temperament makes the process easier as he remains friendly and continues to wag his tail despite his dire circumstances.
Currently, the pooch is undergoing medical care. Although the situation is uncertain, the dog has a remarkable desire to eat and drink. Hence, there is a positive outlook that it will recuperate rapidly.
