Shakira Shares her Passion for the Environment as GLAMOUR’s Latest Cover Star: “Saving the Planet is Achievable, but it Takes a Collective Effort”

GLAMOUR’s November edition features Shakira on the cover, marking our inaugural Environment Issue. In an interview with Emily Maddick, our Entertainment Director and Assistant Editor, the world-famous singer shares her love for preserving the planet, combating discrimination (and wild pigs), and her recent friend, Prince William.

Just a day before my scheduled meeting with the one and only Shakira, she becomes the talk of the town. The media is buzzing with news about her wild encounter with two boars who tried to snatch her handbag while she was enjoying a leisurely afternoon in a Barcelona park. Even BBC and reputable broadsheet newspapers have picked up on the extraordinary story!

She’s astonished by the turn of events and the global response following her social media post. According to her, she was out for a stroll with her son Milan when they stopped for a small ice cream treat. While sitting on a park bench, two massive wild boars emerged from behind them and stole her purse.

I was freaking out and yelling, “Oh my God!” when they started taking away my bag which had my phone, car keys, and other belongings. It was as if they could comprehend me! The bystanders were just standing there watching without taking any action,” she says, now amused by the situation where fortunately no one was harmed.
“They began rummaging through my bag…It turns out that my son’s sandwich was in there, which caught their attention. They took the sandwich and left my bag behind. It was a crazy experience.”
